What do I do when I get to Sucre?
Welcome to Sucre, Bolivia’s historical, cultural and architectural capital. If arriving by air you will arrive at Alcantari airport. From there you can take a taxi to the centre of town for 50Bs. Ask for the Plaza 25 de Mayo, the centre of Sucre old town and where most of the best restaurants and hotels are. Or you can take an airport shuttle, they all go to the centre of town and at 8Bs you save money that could be better spent on other things. Like beer.
If arriving by bus you will arrive at La Terminal de Buses in the East of the city not too far from the centre of town. You can either hop in a taxi which should cost 4Bs per person. Or if you’re feeling more adventurous, walk just outside the terminal and cross the road to take the micro A or 3 straight to the heart of the city. The micros all cost 1.50bs per person.
You can find a range of accommodation in Sucre ranging from plush 4 star hotels on the Plaza to backpackers hostels in Calle Colón just 2 blocks from the Plaza. Eating and drinking in Sucre is getting better all of the time with a choice of fine Dutch, Italian, English and of course Bolivian food. Not to be missed out on is the street food. Salteñas, tucamanes, papas rellenas, sonsos… dribble.
Sucre has so many fascinating cultural experiences and naturally beautiful spaces to see. It can be a time to relax as much as a time for adventure.
We hope that you enjoy your stay in Sucre as much as we do.
